Grants

  • Health and preventive care grants. For physical fitness (gym, sports, swimming, dance, etc.) the fund reimburses up to ISK 15.000 in a 12-month period but never more than 25% of the cost.
  • Hearing aid. Grants are given for up to 50% of the cost, but never more than ISK 150.000. Grants are given once in a 36-month period.
  • Physiotherapy / Massage / Chiropractor: Grants are given for up to 50% of the cost, up to 30 hours in a 12-month period. A doctor's referral must be attached to the application.
  • Physiotherapy for children: Grants are given for up to 50% of the cost, up to 30 visits in a 12-month period. A doctor's referral must be attached to the application.
  • Preventive heart care: 50% of the cost is paid, but not more than ISK 15.000. during a 12-month period.
  • Preventive examinations for early detection of cancer (cytology, mammography) The fund reimburses up to 100% of the cost and another follow-up examination, though not more than 15.000kr in a period of 12 months.
  • Reimbursement of travel expenses. It is possible to receive a grant for travel costs only for health purposes and if the application from Sjúkratryggingar Íslands is rejected beforehand and them member is referred by a doctor to a health service more from the local community. .

The AFL Sickness Fund reimburses 100% of the cost of travel according to the price of air tickets purchased or according to the current fee per kilometer in Sjúkratryggingar Íslands.

The application should be accompanied by a doctor's referral for a necessary travel, confirmation of the visit/examination with a doctor, refusal letter from Sjúkratryggingar Íslands, air tickets and/or fuel receipts. The fund reimburses a maximum of 6 trips over a 12-month period.

  • Reimbursement of travel expenses for medical services for the child. If Sjúkratryggingar Íslands rejects your child's travel allowance claim, the AFL Sickness Fund reimburses 50% of the child's travel costs if one parent is a trade union member or 100% if both parents are members. The application should be accompanied by: a doctor's referral, confirmation of the visit/examination with a doctor, refusal letter from Sjúkratryggingar Íslands, air tickets and/or fuel receipts. The fund reimburses a maximum of 6 trips over a 12-month period.
  • Glasses – Contact lenses. Grants are given for up to 50% of the cost and applies only to the lenses – not the frames. The grants are paid once every two years.
  • Glasses – Contact lenses for a child. Grants are given for up to 50% and applies only to the lenses. The grants are paid once every two years.
  • Laser vision correction. The grants are given for up to 50% of the cost, ISK 75.000kr per eye, ISK 150.000kr in total.
  • IVF or artificial insemination and / or adoption. The fund reimburses up to ISK 200.000 and never more than 50% of the cost.
  • Psychological therapy. Grants are given for up to 50% of the cost but never more than ISK 48.000,- for up to 6 times in a 24-month period.
